Meet Peanut
Peanut is a Rainbow Lorikeet, a species of parrot found in most backyards in Australia. They are commonly known as Lory’s and live in the trees of the rainforest, bush and woodlands. They often fly in large flocks and you can normally hear them coming. They are very noisy and can be quite territorial. Even large cockatoos know not to cross a Lory!
Peanut is a lovable Lorikeet but don’t get in his flight path!
A lady found Peanut on her property during a COVID-19 lockdown but couldn’t care for him long-term. She contacted us and we organised for her to surrender Peanut to our Avian vet. The vet completed a full health assessment and released Peanut into our care over the lockdown period. Shortly after release, Peanut’s health deteriorated and he had another short stint in hospital with treatments for parasites, glucose drip and nursing care. We weren’t able to reunite him with his owner so he joined the flock in November 2020.
Peanut is full of personality and loves to have a chat and mumbles to himself. Quite often you will find him snoozing on his back with his feet in the air. He really is a Peanut!
