Meet Luna
Luna is a Major Mitchell Cockatoo, a bird native to Australia. Major Mitchell’s are mainly found in arid and semi-arid regions of Australia. They are often called a pink cockatoo due to their soft pink body colouring.
The Major Mitchell Cockatoo is named after Major Sir Thomas Mitchell, who was a surveyor and explorer of Southeast Australia during the 1800s.
Don’t be fooled by her good looks. Luna has serious attitude!
Luna was the first member of the flock. When her previous owner travelled overseas in 2015, we looked after her whilst she was away. When she decided to keep travelling, we adopted Luna and she became a permanent member of the flock in November 2016.
Luna has a gentle nature but is quite demanding, and wants everything on her terms. She doesn’t like being told what to do and she will let you know when she doesn’t! When George joined the flock, he tried to get friendly with Luna but she very quickly put him back on his perch. Although she prefers the affection of males, unfortunately for George, she only fluffs her feathers for one man… her favourite ‘hooman’, Scooby.
